A day-long seminar was organized by Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Nidhi (RGVN) on 19th of August, 2017 on “CRAFTS ACTIVITY METHOD OF TEACHING” with faculty support from Shastravahini, Pune. Mr.Madhav Khare and Mrs.Suneeta Khare, who launched Shastravahini in 1986 to train teachers and students in craft activities and undertake project work, were the resource persons. This seminar was part sponsored by Miles Bronson Residential School and Delhi Alumni Association of Assam (DAAA).
A large number of teachers including a gracious principal from several schools of the city and from distant Numaligarh got a flavour of the exhilarating experience that school children go through while performing craft activities. However, there was a difference on this occasion in that the effort was aimed at making children gain a better understanding of Math / Geometry and Science / Physics and more importantly, how this knowledge could be applied in real life situations to offer solutions to various problems and to think innovatively. The attending teachers were given hands-on experience.
In view of the enthusiastic response received from the teachers, RGVN now plans to organize three to five days workshops with faculty support from Shastravahini to train teachers and possibly parents of children as well on this innovative method of teaching.
