Appeal for Funds for Flood-Affected Victims in Rural Assam

This is an earnest appeal from RGVN to our partners and well-wishers to help the flood-affected people in the state of Assam. Assam is reeling under floods. About 4 million have been affected in this deluge in 30 districts of Assam. Presently, many people have left their homes and are staying in relief camps.

Our intervention areas have been thoroughly affected by floods, with our last-mile partners, community members, their families and neighbourhoods facing a severe shortage of essential items. Markets have been rendered inaccessible and there has been a loss of life and property for many of the community members we directly work with, as well as other members of the community. People have lost their livelihoods and their homes have been destroyed by the fury of the floods.

In this period of disaster we need to join hands for immediate disaster response by distribution of essential items to the people of the area. We have carried out a brief needs analysis and we have identified the following items to be of utmost importance:

  1. Baby Food
  2. Biscuits
  3. Candles
  4. Mosquito Nets
  5. Buckets and Mugs
  6. Mosquito Repellent
  7. ORS
  8. Water
  9. Soap
  10. Phenyl/Bleaching Powder
  11. Tarpaulin sheets

Our team members are stationed in these areas and will carry relief material and distribute to the people in need.

We appeal to you to kindly help the people by making a donation for flood relief.

The above budget is for 400 households, and we appeal to you to provide us with the above amount urgently, so that we can start with the relief operations immediately. This is absolutely urgent, as the community members are at high-risk of losing their lives and property, and prone to diseases such as the Japanese Encephalitis if their needs are not met.

With utmost gratitude,

Aneeta Dutta,
Deputy Director, Special Projects,
Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Nidhi
