Rain Water Harvesting, Patna District Bihar

Groundwater has been a traditional source of irrigation. But since last many years it has been depleting fast. Due to this drinking water quality is also going down. The continuous use of water for agriculture and industrial purpose have also caused the groundwater table to go further down considerably.

Under the sustainable water resources, development and management programme of HCCBL Co and with their active support, RGVN decided to rejuvenate some of the ponds selected in one village under Bikram block of Patna District in Bihar on the basis of the catchment and rainfall pattern.
After proper approval of pond design, cleaning and excavation were done and now the ponds are excavated 2.5 to 3 meters depth.

These ponds will collect good amount of water during a normal rainfall. Since the sedimentation and silt which were deposited at the bottom of the ponds were removed. The infiltration rate will increase which will help to recharge the groundwater in the area.#RGVN #rgvn_ho #ngo #ngoinindia #socialwelfare #govtofassam #govtofindia #rainwaterharvesting
