ITC-MSK Project Boosts Livelihoods and Diversification for Farmers in Chhaygaon Rampur area

The ITC-MSK project, implemented in collaboration with ITC Limited, is making significant strides in empowering farmers and promoting sustainable livelihoods in Chhaygaon Rampur area.

Spanning 9 Gram Panchayats and 74 villages across Chaygaon and Rampur blocks, the project directly benefits approximately 1,225 farmers. As highlighted by Project Coordinator, the initiative’s core objective is to enhance the income and well-being of the participating farmers.

Promoting Diversification and Enhancing Skills:

The project adopts a multi-pronged approach, focusing on both farming activities and livestock rearing. Farmers are supported in cultivating Boro paddy, a high-yielding rice variety, and various vegetables. Additionally, the project encourages diversification by promoting pig, goat, and poultry rearing, providing a broader income base for participating families.

Empowering Through Knowledge and Resources:

To equip farmers with the necessary skills and knowledge, the project has established 49 Farmers Field Schools. These schools provide training on various aspects of sustainable agriculture, including improved cultivation practices, resource management, and market access.
Recent Activities:

On February 16th, the project team at ITC MSK Rampur organized “Scheme linkage activities,” connecting farmers with relevant government schemes and programs to further their development. This was followed by the launch of the “Family-based Livelihood diversification of landless, small & marginal farmers” initiative on the same day.

Looking ahead, the project plans to commence farm pond digging activities on March 1st, 2024, in Rampur. These ponds will provide much-needed water resources for irrigation and other agricultural purposes, contributing to long-term sustainability and resilience.

The ITC-MSK project serves as a commendable example of public-private partnership fostering rural development and empowering communities in Bijoynagar. By providing comprehensive support, knowledge, and resources, the project paves the way for a brighter future for participating farmers and their families.
